World Oceans Day – Beach Clean Up
08/06/2019 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 amFree
In celebration of World Oceans Day, the Jetty will be hosting a beach clean-up day. World Oceans Day is a day when people from all over the world come together to celebrate and honour our oceans.
One of the major threats to our oceans is plastic pollution. Some 9 million tons of plastic enters into our oceans each year. It is a major threat to our marine life, through ingestion and entanglement. Re thinking the way we use plastic items in our day to day life will reduce the waste we create. Information on how you can reduce your plastic footprint will be available on the day with some simple ways you can help.
Worldwide over 70% of beach litter is some form of plastic. By cleaning up our beaches of litter, we are stopping this pollution from entering into our oceans and threating our marine life.
We have a pristine environment in Geographe Bay. The Underwater Observatory showcases the rich diversity of marine life we have here, with over 300 different marine species flourishing in our healthy waters.
We invite everyone to come along and join in, to keep our shorelines and waters clean from pollution and protect our oceans for our future generations.
What we will supply: Bags and gloves (but you can bring your own)
What you need to bring: Hats, sun protection, drinking water and enclosed footwear.
Register before Monday June 3rd to [email protected]
